After a quick cup of coffee, you’ll head out into the park to watch as the sun sets fire to the savannah and the big cats take advantage of the morning cool to search for a meal. Masai Mara is situated in south-west Kenya and is one of Africa’s Greatest Wildlife Reserves. The Mara’s gentle fertile climate bounded by The Rift, offers perhaps the richest stocked reserve set within some 1672 sq km – an unlimited spectacle of wildlife. Located 268 km west of Nairobi, the emphasis here is on game. Herds of immense Elephants, browse among Lion, Buffalo, Thompson Gazelle, Zebra and Topi. You may occasionally sight black Rhino. Enjoy an afternoon game drive along the Sogore River Circuit, which loops into the plains south of the Seronera River. This drive provides great viewing of lions, Thomson gazelle, topi, ostrich and cheetah. We will follow the Kopjes Circuit, which goes anti-clockwise around the Maasai Kopjes. This area usually attracts a number of lion and some formidably large cobras. Kopjes are weathered granite outcrops scattered around the plains, most of which are miniature ecosystems that provide shade and drinking water in pools left in the rock after the rains. This makes the kopjes particularly good for spotting wildlife in the dry seasons – including lions, who like to lie in wait for animals coming to quench their thirst. Day 6: Serengeti – Ngorongoro Crater I do recommend an early morning game viewing from 06:30hrs game viewing, as it will increase your chances of spotting wildlife that wanders in the wilderness very early in the morning and also to increase your chances of spotting lioness and their cabs taking their breakfast in the park after a night hunt. Later return to the lodge for your full breakfast, relax set off for your last game viewing in the Serengeti National park. After lunch at the lodge together with your guide depart for the Ngorongoro Conservation area. We will stop at the Olduvai Gorge (optional), which boasts a history dating back to the dawn of time. It was here that the anthropologists Dr. Lois and Mary Leakey discovered the skulls of ‘Nutcracker Man’ and ‘Handy Man’, both very significant links in the chain of human evolution (museum fee for this sightseeing is payable direct by those who are interested as it is optional the fee is roughly 35 us dollars payable direct if you opt to). Continue with the journey to the crater only to arrive in the late afternoon at the Ngorongoro wild camp or ngorongoro rhino lodge or ngorongoro farm house lodge. I recommend you relax and get the view of the crater from the rim as you wait to descend down the crater on the following day for a full day tour before proceeding to a neighboring lake Manyara national park on day 6. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area supports a vast variety of animals, which include herds of wildebeest, zebra, buffalo, hippo and giant African elephants. Another big draw card to this picturesque national park is its dense population of predators, which include lions and the ever-elusive leopard.
